The UK’s largest national sweeper hire company, Go Plant Limited, has provided its services as part of the annual Runway Run event at a busy UK airport.
Go Plant’s Southampton Service Centre was called on for the third year running by the team at Southampton Airport to clean the runway as part of its annual Runway Run on 25th June, which was held in aid of raising money for the airport’s charity of the year, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.
The event has currently raised £16,000 through sponsorships, a figure which is continuing to grow with many online sponsorships yet to be added to the total. 600 runners joined together to take part in the 5K race along the runway, with some donning Superman, Wonder Woman and Batman costumes.
Vince Nicholls, Regional Manager of Go Plant Southampton, explained: “The Runway Run is a brilliant yearly event that brings together the local community who each play their part in raising vital funds for such a worthwhile cause.
“We’ve worked with Southampton Airport for some time to provide ongoing sweeping of the runways to ensure they’re kept free from dirt and debris, for the health and safety of the travelling public and airport personnel. To be asked to participate again in this year’s Runway Run for their charity of choice was a no-brainer, and we’re very much looking forward to seeing how much they all managed to raise in total.”
Dave Lees, Managing Director at Southampton Airport, said “Once again we were blessed with some brilliant weather for our Runway Run and were thrilled to see so many people turn up to support our wonderful Charity of the Year, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance. There is always such a fantastic atmosphere at the Runway Run which is great especially considering the very early start. This type of event simply couldn’t happen without the goodwill and support of other companies giving up their time and we would like to thank Go Plant for making the Runway Run possible again this year.”
