London Luton airport completes signage overhaul

One of the UK’s largest airports, London Luton Airport (LLA), has completed a digital signage overhaul as part of its £160m transformation, which also includes a terminal extension and new retail area.

132 LG digital signage displays were specified and are being installed by SPC Group, as part of a long standing relationship with LLA recommending technology, consulting and maintaining the displays.

Jon Swain, Managing Director of SPC Group explained: “A key part of the transformation is the new retail area, which hosts 30 new shops and restaurants including Ted Baker, Next, Oriel Brasserie and Oliver Bonas.  LLA’s main focus is to enhance the passenger experience, which they have achieved in the flow of the new retail area. We were required to reposition and upgrade the existing screens in this area so passengers are able to clearly see the information displays from various positions around the area. Many of the displays are hung in unconventional places, so we required extremely sturdy brackets from Unicol and Chief manufacturing to ensure double, triple and back to back formations are secure. It’s fantastic to see that the retailers are investing in in-store flight information displays to reassure passengers as they shop.”

Kamal Patel, Head of Information Technology at, London Luton Airport, added: “It is really important for our passengers that LLA is able to clearly display information in the airport environment. Our displays have to perform 24/7 and must be highly reliable over their expected life-span. A rapid and efficient repair or replacement process is also critical alongside a good warranty from the manufacturer, should there be any faults. We have been impressed by the current generation of LG displays and hope to see many years of excellent performance from these units.”
