Since 2011, Glasgow Airport has worked with Broxap who have designed, manufactured and installed canopies and covered walkways to improve the customer experience of passengers at the airport.
A 62m covered walkway was installed at Glasgow International Airport earlier this year. The covered walkway which is a steel walkway with glazed panels and multiwall polycarbonate roofing, traverses the route from the airport terminal to the car hire facilities. This provides passengers with protection from the unpredictable weather.
The covered walkway is the newest addition to a number of walkways and canopies erected around the airport to improve the overall customer perception and experience.
Previous canopies include a large bespoke passenger canopy and connecting plaza fabric canopy for international arrival passengers. When passengers arrived at Glasgow Airport, upon exiting the building to get to transportation, it was very open and extremely draughty. Passengers had no protection against the varying weather. Broxap worked with Glasgow Airport Ltd to create a modern, striking and functional canopy. The tensile structure was completed with lighting and integral guttering. The plaza canopy improves the overall customer experience for international arrivals as they are greeted with a stylish, light and airy cover. The plaza canopy was teamed up with a 98m covered walkway to ensure complete comfort for passengers.
In 2011, a series of cantilever tensile canopies were installed to provide protection to passengers departing the airport from both the Bus and Taxi ranks outside the main terminal extension. The tensile canopies were constructed using galvanised and wet paint main steelwork structure and a PVC fabric membrane roofing material with integral gutter system. For further weather protection, the installation also included side protection screens at ground level.
