Airport Focus held the first conference on winter operations and airside safety at Heathrow in 2013. The second event is being held at Helsinki Airport in two weeks time from February 23-24.
Airports around the world know better than any other business that the winter climate can be very unpredictable. Even in countries, which are used to harsh winters, sudden weather events can take even the best prepared organisations by surprise.
These events underline the importance of airports sharing their expertise on how to minimise the disruption caused by very cold weather.
Being the land of snow and ice, Finland’s entire airport network and infrastructure have been planned with these extreme weather conditions in mind so it is a very fitting venue to stage the conference.
The requirement for sustainability will be key theme of the conference as there is always an environmental levy to be paid for a significant ramping up of the use of machinery and chemicals to keep airports fully open during winter.
This event brings together “snow how” from Helsinki and other airports around the globe. It also features many of the key suppliers whose technology, equipment and expertise, keep airports operational throughout the winter months.
We will be welcoming this unique community to Helsinki from February 23-24. For more information on the event visit: www.woase2015.com
